Fans of brutalist architecture – that’s you, Umbrella readers – can mark the passing of a concrete great this Friday.
With the closure of the Welbeck Street car park (as seen on the cover of Issue 15 of Umbrella) in London’s West End, Brutal_Architecture Instagram has organised an event at the building. A few words will be spoken about its history and construction, before everyone decamps to The Gunmakers’ pub in nearby Marylebone.
As well the attraction of cold lagers and pale ales (enough in itself to get us to attend) there’ll be a talk/debate with Barnabas Calder, author of Raw Concrete. It’s sure to be a fantastic evening.
The talk is at Welbeck Street car park, kick-off 7pm. We’ll see you there.
