Nomos Zurich Worldtimer: our favourite travellers' watch

It's rare to find a watch brand that combines cutting edge design with the great traditions of horological craftsmanship. Nomos, located in the German watchmaking capital, Glashütte, does just that.

We've written about Nomos before, when we profiled its gorgeous Metro timepiece, which we described as the "ultimate urban watch". This time the company is back with something equally as special, the Zurich Worldtimer.

So, what's so great about it?

Well, firstly, it looks absolutely boss. The aqua-blue face contrasts beautifully with the grey hands, while the sweeping seconds index lends the face a minimal, technical feel. But, as you can see, there's more, much more.

The clue is in the name, Worldtimer. Thanks to its ingenuous Xi movement – manufactured in-house by Nomos – the watch lets you fix a 'home" timezone (there's 23 to choose from), which you can change through a punch of the button above the winding screw. No matter where you are in the world, you'll know exactly what time it is back home. Ideal if you want to remind yourself what a good time your friends are having without you.

According to Nomos, the new movement took two years to make and features 23 new precision parts, and you can see just how beautiful it is through the 'exhibition back'. Of course, all this work doesn't come cheap, but this is a watch that will last you a lifetime, and impress design junkies and watch snobs alike. Bravo, Nomos, bravo.

The Nomos Zurich Worldtimer is released in arly September, price £3,850
