There’s much to like about Scandinavia.

Forget Alex Salmond’s “arc of prosperity”, the Nordic countries provide their peoples with a ‘sweep of pleasantness’ that goes from Bergen to Helsinki. Not only are the Danes, Swedes and Finns mostly tolerant types, but they also possess good taste – in furniture, architecture and cooked meat – by the lorryload.

Want proof? Just look at the offerings from one of Umbrella’s favourite brands, Norse Projects. Every season, this Danish brand comes up trumps with delightfully proportioned separates that whisper (no shouting, they're from Copenhagen) both subtlety and playfulness.

The current spring/summer range demonstrates this perfectly. Forget big ‘statement’ pieces, everything here is simple: from the Kyle Hemp Denim overshirt to the soft- shouldered Heine End on End blazer. We’re especially fond of Norse’s collaboration with Suicoke sandals – ideal with a pair of beige socks.

We’ll be focusing more on Norse in the coming months, but for now, enjoy our selection of this season’s range. Then get yourself over to Copenhagen to sample its store.
