Launched in 1987, the Air Max is one of Nike's undoubted classics. Satisfyingly chunky, the trainer combines technical knowhow with a pared-down design aesthetic. Originally a running trainer, the Air Max – in all its updated versions – became a staple for those in Europe who identified with Nike's American street philosophy.

This month, Nike are relaunching the shoe in a whole host of new designs inspired by three cities, Paris, Milan and London. From a suede Milanese version of the all-conquering Air Max 97 to a London-inspired, tech heavy version of the Air Max 90 influenced by the colours of the British capital's transport system (hopefully, they'll still work when it snows).

We've said it before, Nike takes its heritage seriously, and when it updates its classics, it does so with care and innovation. Impressive.

The trainers will be available between February 15 and March 27.
