Quality knitwear is often overlooked by those of us with an eye for nice piece of schmutter. Unlike coats, which announce themselves in a blur of zips, pockets and hoods – jumpers don't really offer anything showy, relying instead on cut, colour and material. It's for these reasons why Umbrella likes Alan Paine knitwear.

The new season collection features roll- and crew-necks, slip-overs (which used to be called 'tank tops' in times past) and cardigans – made of a variety of materials, from merino wool to pima cotton with cashmere. They may not define your outfit, but these are the sort of garments that give you that unidentifiable 'something' which sets you apart from the rest of the herd.
